Design: Deluxe soak in midair

Combining the relaxing elements of a hammock and a bath tub, Vessel has been designed to provide an ultimate luxurious bath experience for those able to afford its hefty price tag, which has yet to be announced, but is likely to be upwards of $34,000 (R323,000). Only twelve are being made and you can choose a colour from black, red, blue, yellow, pink, bronze and silver.

Ideally fitted in a wet room, Vessel is suspended from opposite walls by steel brackets and is filled using a floor standing tap while the waste water is released through the base into a floor drain. Custom sizes are available but the tub is also designed so that it can be trimmed up to 20 cm to allow for some flexibility in the installation.

It is made from carbon fibre which is used for its inherent strength and ability to be formed into complex curves. Beneath the layers of carbon fibre lies a foam core to insulate the tub keeping your water warm. At 2.7m Vessel is longer than a regular bathtub, leaving enough room to share the experience!

Vessel was launched last month by UK design house Splinter Works, established in 2009 by long time friends Miles Hartwell and Matt Withington, who set out to make sculptural furniture which in the words of this creative duo is both “engaging and inspiring”.
