This beautiful two-bedroom townhouse in De Waterkant needed a remodel of its top-floor, open-plan kitchen and living space. Our client loves colour, so we took inspiration from the Barbie movie palette to create a bespoke paint colour for the cabinetry.

We used a sprayed finish for the upper units, which meant we weren’t limited to set colours and could achieve the exact tone we were after. These cupboards also experience less wear and tear, so a sprayed finish worked well. Below the counter, we chose a hard-wearing board from Niemann in a soft, neutral tone, providing a warm balance to the playful upper units.

The original tiled floors in the kitchen and living area were removed and replaced with engineered oak flooring from Oggie. This created a seamless flow and made the existing Townhouse Waterkant Street kitchen look more spacious.

All the appliances – including the washing machine, oven and microwave – were integrated, allowing the neutral, matte Niemann cabinetry below the counter to run uninterrupted. A fluted glass cabinet with a gold frame brings in softness and shine, and complements the gold kitchen tap.

The Smeg hood is built into the ceiling, maintaining a spacious and uncluttered feel.

Finished in matte black granite, the modern undermount Franke sink pairs well with the Caesarstone countertops in a soft, stone-look finish. Soft LED strip lighting was added to the kicker plates – a subtle detail that gives the base units a gentle glow and adds depth in the evenings.
