After the House Du Plooy kitchen was completely destroyed in a fire, it had to be rebuilt from scratch, giving our client a chance to reimagine the space. We’d renovated the home back in 2017, so we were pleased to be invited back to take on the new work. Being a heritage home, we made sure to keep the original floor tiles and windows.
To improve flow and functionality, we reconfigured access to the scullery and walk-in pantry by creating a new door opening with a custom barn-style sliding door.
We worked with a mix of classic and contemporary elements, combining open floating shelves with shaker-style cabinetry and undercounter LED lighting. The composite gold calacatta Atlas stone forms the work tops, which are fitted onto the custom-made cabinetry.
The Franke sink and Meir tap are perfectly positioned next to the window overlooking the courtyard, while the beautiful Ilve cooker in a blue-grey finish creates a striking centerpiece.
For the finishes, the custom-built green and warm-white cabinetry is complemented by a slatted splashback at the coffee station.
