This family home is situated in a unique estate in the mountains of Hout Bay. The brief from our client was to renovate the main en suite bathroom as well as the kids’ bathroom. We played around with tones of green, charcoal, wood and different textures when creating the storyboard of finishes for House Avignon Estate bathrooms. Mood lighting elements were also included to add an extra level of depth and scale.
We looked at different ways of combining these elements to create contrast, but still achieve an overall cohesive look – balancing smooth and textured surfaces, matte and gloss finishes, and layering tones to give each space a sense of warmth and calm.
To maximise surface space for the vanity worktops, larger under-counter basins from Duravit were selected for the main bathroom, where there was more depth to work with. Slightly smaller under-counter basins from Villeroy & Boch were chosen for the kids’ bathroom to suit the more compact layout.
Chosen for their timeless shape, the black taps are from the Meir range. A simple white engineered stone top from Atlas Quartz was carefully placed to contrast with the finishes for the windowsills, vanity top and shower recess shelves in the main bathroom. To add warmth and texture, a fluted wood-look tile was used in the shower.
In the kids’ bathroom, we used green wall tiles by Marazzi as a feature and combined these with the same fluted wood-look large-format wall tile.
Custom cabinetry and mirror cabinets were made from wood-look boards by Niemann, chosen for their durability and perfect for the demands of a young family. The shaped backlit LED mirrors were designed as a matching pair for the kids’ double basin, adding a playful yet practical detail to the space.
